1.Am I permitted to walk the 5K?
Yes. We welcome and embrace our walkers! This race is timed but there is no time limit. -
2.How many miles are in a 5K?
5 Kilometers is equal to 3.10685596 miles. In other words 3 miles + 564 feet and 2.4 inches. We usually just say “3.1 miles”. -
3. How do you measure the course?
We use a measuring wheel and GPS device. If you move toward the outside of the course or cut at certain angles, you could end up doing slightly more or less than the official 5K amount. -
4. Are strollers permitted?
Strollers are not permitted on the 5K as it goes slightly off pavement. For safety purposes, we ask that those with strollers register for the one mile walk which remains on pavement. -
5. Is the race wheelchair friendly?
Part of the 5K goes onto a grassy surface. Even in rainy conditions, this area does not usually get too muddy. Depending on the type, a wheelchair would likely be fine, but if you have concerns about this, please contact our race director at dcrews@remissionrun.org -
6. Can I bring my leashed pet?
Although we love our pets too and wish we could bring them to this family event, we ask that you please leave pets at home. Safety for all is our number one priority. Thank you for your understanding. -
7. Are headphones permitted?
Yes. -
8. Will there be food & beverage?
YES! We will have lots of coffee, hot chocolate, chocolate milk, water and sports drink. Remission Run also provides a great breakfast for our participants, volunteers and even spectators at no additional cost. We will also have plenty of light snacks, including pretzels, fruit and bagels. One aid station is on the course at about half way with water and sports drink. -
9. Do you have race day registration?
Yes. There is an additional $5 fee for registering on race day. It is recommended that you register by January 10, 2012 to be sure to get the correct shirt size and to see the name of the cancer patient you are running in honor or memory of printed on the back. -
10. When does online registration close?
January 26 at midnight. -
11. How do I get the people I’m running in honor or memory of printed on the race shirts? Can I purchase extra shirts?
Names of your “honored celebrities” will be printed on the back of the race shirts. To be sure of getting the name(s) of your loved one printed on the shirt, please register by January 10, 2012. At registration you will be asked to name a cancer patient you are running in honor or memory of. You are not limited in how many names you add. Be sure to spell the names correctly and put them in the correct category (either “in honor of” or “in memory of”). -
12. Are there refunds if I can’t make the race?
Because this is a charity fun run, we ask that you consider your fee a donation if you cannot attend the race. 100% of race proceeds are donated to cancer research. -
13. If I can’t make the race and I want to let someone else use my bib, is that allowed?
Bib transfers are not typically allowed for multiple reasons. You cannot simply wear someone else’s bib because our race insurance only covers those registered for the race. When you register you sign (or check) a waiver. Transferring a bib is a big process and it actually means we have to grant a “free” race entry to the person taking your place with an offline form. Although this is not impossible, it’s a complicated process so we hope you’ll just consider your fee a donation if you can’t be at the race. We do understand that sometimes this is a financial burden and if that’s the case, please EMAIL us and we’ll try to work this out. -
14. Are there awards?
Yes. To see the awards breakdown, click here. -
15. If I don’t come to the race, will you mail me my shirt and race packet?
We really want you to come to the race, but if something comes up and you can’t be there but still want your shirt & bib, let us know. If you want to donate to help cover shipping, you can do that on our Pay Pal account. To send one shirt costs about $5.50.
