Lymphoma is the 5th most common cancer in the United States, striking nearly 75,000 people each year and causing more than 20,000 deaths. Each year it continues to increase in incidence and is the second fastest growing cancer in the country.
Researchers are developing new drugs and therapies, including targeted therapies which target cancer cells and leave normal cells alone. To further develop these therapies, researchers need an abundant supply of tumor tissue which is provided by the Lymphoma Tissue Bank at MD Anderson Cancer Center.
Through funding by the Fredrick B. Hagemeister Research Fund, the Lymphoma Tissue Bank continues to provide tumor data to researchers not only at MD Anderson, but many outside institutions as well.
"The tissue bank is crucial to translational research in any viable cancer treatment program. Without it, modern research programs will cease to exist." ~ Fredrick Hagemeister, M.D.
